Plan a painting estimate with confidence

1. List the surfaces, not just the rooms

For each room, note whether you want walls, ceilings, doors, trim and closets painted. Include stairs and high walls. For exterior work, list siding, trim, doors, railings and other surfaces separately.

2. Show the current condition

Take a wide photograph of each space and close-ups of patches, chips or worn areas. Mention previous paint or stain if you know it. Photographs help start the conversation; they do not replace agreement on the final scope.

3. Explain access and timing

Tell us if you are living in the home, if furniture needs to be moved, and which spaces must remain accessible. Include your town and preferred dates. Ceiling height, stairs and exterior access also matter.

4. Compare the written scope

• Which surfaces and preparation are included?
• What finish or product approach is proposed?
• How will furniture, floors and surrounding areas be protected?
• What cleanup is included?
• How will any extra work be discussed and approved?
• What does the workmanship warranty cover, and for how long?

5. Understand why prices differ

Room size, surface condition, access, preparation, colour changes and the surfaces included can change the work involved. A fixed online price without those details can be misleading. Request a free written estimate for your actual project.
